The beauty of autumnal flowers lies in their rich colour schemes as foliage begins to display fabulous fall colours such as oranges, golds, russet reds, and browns. But it's also possible to make more modern and eye-catching arrangements from blues, lilacs and gorgeous greens.
What's in season in autumn?
Gladioli and chrysanthemums are in season at this time of year as are slender-stemmed nerines in an array of stunning colours including perfect white, pink and bright red, bringing jewelled beauty to this particular season. For a beautiful bouquet, mix blood red nerines with purple callicarpa berries, brown hypericum berries, and finish with seasonal foliage.
For contemporary blues at this time of year opt for hydrangeas, delphiniums or thistles. Or, for a touch of lilac, choose alliums, 'Blue Curiosa' or Sterling Silver' lilac roses as well as gladioli, lisianthus and trachelium.
Finishing touches -
Fill glass vases with tiny crab apples or opt for a harvest theme with wheat, barley, hops and vines, which also looks beautiful. Adding sprigs of berries will bring a rustic feel to bouquets and arrangements.
